Try Kindness

I ran across this little quote attributed to Mr. Aesop (he of fable fame) and thought it was worth sharing. Sadly, kindness, politeness and respect for one another seem to be in short supply. Nearly every day as I scroll through my Facebook news feed, I can count on seeing caustic and often vitriolic posts about politics or current events from a handful of people. (Yes, I know these are supposed to be "friends." Once they were. However, the Internet magnifies various less-than-attractive traits in those who choose to behave badly. Until now I've avoided the "unfriend" button, though I may yet seek relief from the click of my mouse...)

Then there are people you don't know.

On news and blog websites, particularly those dealing with politics, I mostly pass on reading the comments which follow articles and posts. Whenever I do, I'm astounded by the nastiness and name-calling. I wonder when we lost the ability to respectfully disagree.

I've got nothing against spirited debate - but the denigrating and name calling is ridiculous. I'm hoping kindness and decency aren't just relics of another time.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
