The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

With my mother, Clarice Metschke, on a visit to see family in Nebraska

Today is the anniversary of my mother's birth. It's been 17 years since I've been able to celebrate this day with her, but she remains with me still.

At the end, as she lay in a coma near death, one of the things I repeated to her was that we'd always be together...most certainly true since she lives on in my heart and my memories.

How wonderful it would be to enjoy her company one more time if just for a little while; I know, though, that she's in the presence of God and recently reunited with my father - so I am happy for her and content to surround myself with remembrances of the love she showered upon me and the things she taught me.

She was the very best friend I ever had.

One day, I'll see her again.

Happy Birthday, Mom.
