The Beautiful Hills

Bretton Woods Hillside

I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2

In the White Mountains of New Hampshire, color is at its peak. Though it's been a little bit muted this year due to the lack of rain over the summer, the trees are absolutely lovely nonetheless. (And, happily, the color in the mountains seems to have been less impacted by the dry conditions than near the seacoast where I live.)
I'm partial to the foliage show here in the Granite State; with 48 mountains at 4000 feet or higher, a heavily forrested landscape, and all of it located in a relatively compact area, it makes for some fantastic scenery - all within reach. You will see amazing things, especially if you're willing to do a little driving. I never get tired of it.

Beautiful, lush and peaceful during spring and summer, the trees seem to take on a whole different personality in late September and early October - shouting for attention as they turn vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red. As I've been out working in the field the past 10 days, I've taken snapshots in addition to making fine art images. I'll share some with you over the course of the next few days.

The image above was captured a few years ago in Bretton Woods; to me, it epitomizes autumn in New England. (Put Bretton Woods on your list of places to see if you come to New Hampshire. It's gorgeous. It's also where you'll find the base camp for the famous cog railway which will take you to the top of Mount Washington.)
