On Giving it Your Best Shot
You may be familiar with the Alfred Lord Tennyson quote, “Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die.” I came across a spin on that famous line a few years back…by Bill Cowher, who at the time was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here’s what Cowher said:
Ours is not to wonder why – ours is to continue to try.
I jotted it down and have looked at it many times since then; I find it to be very good advice.
Lousy things happen…sometimes in spades.
Especially when it seems as though life is really piling it on and you find yourself feeling a little bit like you’ve got a target on your back – you can wonder why, in spite of your best efforts, the challenges don’t let up.
Or there may be days you find yourself thinking too much about what things used to be like before the tide turned. But it really is an exercise in futility.
Better to approach every day with an attitude that you’re going to strive to pull those bootstraps up and give it your best shot. Not always easy to do, but a worthy goal.
