On Christ the Solid Rock, I Stand

If you're ever in Sedona, Arizona, make sure you check out the Chapel of the Holy Cross. This stunning church, visible from some distance away, is literally built into the red rocks and looks down on the valley below.

I shot this the first time I visited...as the sun lowered in the late-day sky, the rocks took on an even more intense shade of red. Juxtaposed with the deep blue sky, the contrast - and the subject matter - were lovely.

As I gazed up at the church, the words of the hymn popped into my head. They seemed to be a good fit with the subject matter.

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
No merit of my own I claim
but fully lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

The church is open daily from 9am-5pm and from 10am-5pm on Sundays.
