Extending Spring

Mother Nature played quite the April Fool's prank on us here in New England with a Nor'easter last Friday. Here's what it looked like that morning:

Fortunately, warmer temperatures over the weekend melted much of the snow. That said, it's going to be a while before we see the beautiful signs of spring that I eagerly anticipate: flowering trees and shrubs, along with the first flowers of the season.

My crocus haven't even popped out of the ground yet.

Just as I extended the autumn shooting season last year by heading to the highlands of North Carolina after the "show" had peaked up here, I'm thinking of giving myself additional spring photographic opportunities by again going south. Very soon.

I've always wanted to see the rhododendron in bloom along the Blue Ridge Parkway - or another favorite area is Charlottesville, VA (in close proximity to Shenendoah National Park as well as Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home).

If I make the trek, I'll post photos.
