Book of Psalms to the Rescue

I mentioned recently that I've been making my way through the Book of Psalms. It seems as though God may have guided me specifically to that spot; not two weeks after I began, my father very suddenly went to be with the Lord. This book has been a source of great comfort following that devastating loss.

Though I consult the Psalms frequently and have used quite a few excerpts from them to design keepsakes for The Christian Gift, it had been a while since I read through the whole thing. God works in mysterious ways. I thought I'd share just a few verses that have spoken especially eloquently to me given my current situation.

We all know this time of year is difficult for many; amidst the great joy and celebration, memories of loved ones who are no longer with us, painful family situations, or other challenges of life can become magnified. If you're experiencing any of those feelings - or burdens or any kind - maybe you'll find these helpful, too.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. (68:19)

In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. (86:7)

May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you. (33:22)

I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. (55:16-17)

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you. (55:22)

Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. (22:11)

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. (9:10)

The Lord will hear when I call to him. (4:3)

The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid. (118:6)

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (119:28)

I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. (118:13-14)

God bless you as you prepare to celebrate the birth of the Christ child.

"With God we will gain the victory." (108:13)
