A Little Bit of Heaven on Earth

The quote below was featured in a choral CD I received for Christmas. As a music lover and musician, I thought it was a beautiful statement - and a way of thinking about music I hadn't previously considered!

While it's possible the earth shares other art forms with heaven (we won't know until we get there), music is the one the Bible tells us about for certain. And of course, the Scriptures are also filled with references to music here on earth, too. Just a few verses pulled from the songs that are the Psalms:

My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Psalm 57:7

It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High. Psalm 92:1

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Psalm 95:1

While we're on the subject of music, the next time you're at church, give your organist...or instrumentalists...choir members...vocalists...music director...a word of encouragement and thanks for the contribution they make to worship.

Whatever style of music you use to worship, and whatever instruments are used to make it, it's beautiful to be able to worship God via melody and harmony, isn't it?

"Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world."

~Martin Luther
