Remember Thanksgiving

"Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul."
-Henry Ward Beecher

It seems each year that Thanksgiving becomes more and more of a coda: just a little something tucked quietly away between Halloween and Christmas.

If it weren't for football games and the big meal, it might already have passed into oblivion. And let's face it: even football and the feast often take a back seat to the focus on frenzied shopping.

Consider the number of stores that now open on Thanksgiving. This seems to me to be a shame. We need Thanksgiving Day - for its intended purpose.

Thankfulness is good for the heart.

While every day is a good day to reflect on our blessings, it's especially appropriate to take time to pause and give thanks on the holiday set aside specifically for us to do so.

“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.”
– Dietrich Bonhoeffer
